Arachnophobia – Into the Darkest of Shadows

Ancient whisperings tell of a mortal mage whose pride was no match against the envy of those controlling the Echo. Twisted and transformed for the pursuit of magnificence, a great and terrible abomination now lurks within the shadow.

Desperate to share its suffering with all who seek to follow magic’s path, the Shadow Weaver quietly plans, tirelessly. Only by finding true light in the dark can we hope to illuminate the tangled webs hidden in the darkest of shadows.

The Arachne Weaver, a dark and malevolent spirit of old has cast its many eyes upon our world. It's up to mages of both Academies to put an end to the certain destruction this tormented spirit will wreck upon us all.

The ‘Arachnophobia’ campaign will begin Monday, September 26 at approximately 11:00 AM PDT and will run for one full week. Individual rewards will be provided to top contributors at the end of each round and total energy gains can be tracked on the leader board.

We will be rewarding the first mage who obtains one of the new Arachne Sigils from Banishing an Arachne Weaver from the time the Arachnophobia campaign begins, with an official Shadow Cities T-shirt, customizable iPhone 4 skin and an exclusive interview highlighting the experience published on our blog. The announcement of who actually earned the first Archane Sigil and the interview will be posted after the campaign ends.

The latest update, 'Shadow Weavers Anguish' has brought about many unique changes to Shadow Cities, such as battlegroup wide buffs, and a new shared reward system, where all players participating in a spirit's banishment will share reward. The full details of the update can be found here.

Sick new boss, GA! Lag seems improved in cloud view, but fighting that spider demon is lag-inducing. And I still don't gain xp. I had hoped the level limits would be raised and new spells added. C'est la vie! I'll add that to my "wish list".

I've actually managed to have a discussion in the team chat, move from beacon to beacon in CV, and even participate in the taking-down of one of the new spirit bosses - all without crashing once. The lag when fighting the spider was still pretty bad, but still better than it's been in the past. Excellent update so far. Certainly has more to offer than the last one.

I don't mean to be negative, but you have a handful of issues that cripple gameplay. For instance, players with large friend lists cannot even warp into battles because the beacon list is unusable. PM's are horribly screwed up. It's a social game, yet it seems clear you designed it so people would only have a few hundred friends. Fine, but it must have been apparent for many months that established players would have much larger lists yet you have made no changes to the game to address these issues. Also, the logic behind the kill-sharing system as I understand it (I may not be entirely correct) seems flawed and still designed to encourage kill shotting by lower level players. With this boss you have introduced an element that will A) severely change the balance of gameplay and B) will eat mana pots. If that was not the intent, I think it's how it's being seen by many players I talk to. I think you have a great game here and I don't want to be negative, but this update is an epic fail in my book. If you have tried to make an update that was more disappointing I think it would have been difficult to do so. Please address lag, beacon lists, PM's, etc. Forget new content, forget new bells and whistles... please fix what you have before you start losing players.

Sounds awesone. Joined reward on kill is something we've been asking for a long time. Let's see if that one is a keeper... =)

What are the lavender beacons that are visible at Spider sites? They have mage names on them. I am not talking about the transient purple columns visible when potting, but persistent beacons at the spider. Are they just discolored by the spider's presence?

I don't like spiders. Can I imagine this spirit to be an octopus instead? LoL

This arachnid spirits are the worst idea I've ever seen. The game is loosing fast any interest, at least from my point of view. Fighting against yourself and other mages, even spirits, is ok, but fighting a beast among a school of people to have finally 5 that get a recompense, looks to me crazy and stupid.

By the way, the lag is now even worst with the arachnid spirits. Either you do something with it or people will get fed up with the game.

I must agree with everyone concerning the lag and constant crashing. It doesnt seem like the systems can handle 40 mages all in one area casting and putting up beacons and such. It has a massive impact on the game, and can be infuriating. most times I hit the ground, but I am stuck in cloud view and cant see whats happening until I am already banished. I love the new boss spirit, but because of lag and crashing, my love for the game has started to decrease. Plus I wasted 70 pots on spiders, and got no pots back for being a part of banishing one.

hey guys the best way to kill a spider (with lagg) is to just have about 200 to 300 pple (bcuz this kills the spider in only a few hits from each player :D) that way you guys dont have to use 70 or so pots PS Guys pls add me I dont have a bunch of friends and could rlly use em

I agree, the lag is extreme. Here we call it a lagged insta banished. Because as soon as we pop into a battle or weaver its cast......1....2....3....4...oh hit and banished, then orange hp hits show up, but of course only after I am on the banished screen. Anytime a new friend request occurs, the app crashes. Anytime I go to sky view and try to use beacons its freeze and after 2 mins I have to just close the app. It's just horrid. I like the shared spirit idea although it would be better to reflect xp in the % of damage done, but hey beggers can't be choosers and this joint system does make it easier to complete missions that is if you can even warp to do so. The weaver...ah, where to start, it definitely is a BOSS, however it takes any extreme amount of people who know exactly how to kill it in order to kill it. Also having the extreme of 6 weavers in one area is nuts, just FYI. I understand the creation of a BOSS and the desire to create profit with the use of mana pots, but making him so incredibly hard with so many popping up is ridiculous(weavers should be rare).I mean he heals when laying down, he heals by taking from players and the drain pools, he heals with time, the lag is so extreme that its close to impossible! I believe that if you would just first address the issue of lag then some of these other problems may fix themselves, or provide away to at least address them. TIP: for future expansion/development make it so that you can tell how much more xp you need till the next level(numerically ie 35xp/700xp til level 10) also I have had issues pulling the cast screen down, because its reads it as going to sky view, just a move of that drag screen to the side would be nice(an adjustment but no more accidental misreads of cast or sky view)
