I have had a few times where a cast of mine went off waaaay late and ended up getting the killing blow only for me to run to chat saying OH SH!@# Im so sorry let me help you find another.

5. Tag your beacons: When you cast a new beacon, it’s considered good manners to post a status with the reason for the beacon; i.e. “Raid,” “War,” “Miscast”, “Home beacon”, “Hunting Beacon”, “HELP!”. If the beacon is untagged, people assume it’s an alarm and react accordingly.



Except when you have players from both sides as a friend. Then you might not want to advertise the beacon to the opposition.

I think most people with mixed lists understand that this is risky proposition, but as your opposing friends can't see your beacons I would argue that the courtesy outweighs the risk - unless you don't mind your bacons bng flooded by teammates! :-)
