Yes, the mana regen is not instant but a person with more mana has a substantial advantage over someone who has less. The ability to buy mana exacerbates this issue because you can buy mana at a much higher rate than you can earn it. Gateway ownership bonuses will make this even worse.

I have no problem with Grey Area making money from their efforts. I want them to make money, but with the current system you can essentially buy your way to the top.

I place first in my battlegroup almost every round without having purchased a single potion. Granted my battlegroup is small, but I know for a fact at least one of the members in it has purchased potions. They gave me a hell of a time but I still came out on top with a bit(a lot) of hard work. I was able to maintain similar emergy gain, though it was a bit slower, with the proper tactics and eventually take the spot back. Challenge is fun, you also can't expect to place high without putting real effort in, that includes potion buyers as well.

The consensus appears to be on the side of the current system being fine.

I understand the challenge. I expect that and frankly desire that out of the game. I just don't want to lose just because the other guy spent more money than me.

I finally was able to purchase the gateway near me, put up some dominators, etc. I was moving right along.

Then an opposing player comes along and buys the gateway out from under me. He was a level 9 at that point I think. He bought the gateway for 70 mana.

I own 6 realms and one of them is worth 130. It's really not that big of a deal. I've never bought potions because it's not that hard to attain them by just playing the game.

If the other player was the previous owner when you bought it then he gets credits for the potions he had already invested in it. I'm guessing it was 60, you bought it for 70 which means it's now worth 80. He only had to put 20 potions into it to get it back.

If somebody wants to spend their hard earned money on mana, more power to them. It seems like a really silly way to get a minor advantage in the game.
