Um I have searched my area pretty thoroughly from:

- my house to the Toronto Zoo
- my house to malvern mall
- my house to the cineplex @ milner
- my house to my church near littles rd.
- malvern mall to a couple blocks up tapscott

... And there are no gates

someone had found a gate somewhere around shepard (I think it was near Scarborough Town Centre) but really, I covered a lotta ground around the radius of my house and still found nadda! The Zoo is near (not close in real life terms, but in jumping terms) to rouge hill station and port union, and I have yet to find any gates in the area.

I am wondering why is it that there is none, and if gates are related to real power stations or landmarks or something.

There are several threads on gates, but the general consensus is that they're a bit screwy in the US and even moreso in Canada. Gates are created from the geonames.com data, and much of Canada is improperly tagged

As Gabriel pointed out above, the gateways are created from locations tagged in Geonames. Some places don't have a lot of places tagged, others may not be tagged correctly.

Grey Area updates the maps using this data. I'm not really sure how they go about doing so though.

Some areas have not been activated in general though such as Asian countries.

Grey Area has changed harvesting rules many times over the course of the game's existence apparently and so they may be subject to future change as well. A lot of people have complaints about the current system and so you never know.

Ugh I still can't believe that the other day we were on an american map and that map has more gates clustered in one area then the whole of Ontario has period.
