MUTATION PART 3
I limped home. Every step I took hurt my legs more and more. They seriously battered me up and I mean really bad. I didn’t stop once on my way home to see Jamie, Jessica or Dylan.
I’ve known Jessica since I was five years old. I used to see her a lot because my mom and her mom went to the same work place. They work in a hospital. My dad never let me visit because he didn’t want me seeing people with stab wounds or anyone with broken ankles and whatnot. He thought that it would encourage me to play more violent games and to be proper ‘Badass’ on the street such as swearing and vandalism. I always use to talk to Jessica. She was like a sister to me. She was always there for me.
As for Dylan, he’s like your typical goody two shoes kid. Well it was more like that he acted like a saint in the classroom but a gangster out on the street. To be honest he could probably have a good chance in fighting Adam. I’ve never seen it happen but it would be quite an even fight. He likes to make everyone laugh at time to time and he can easily make someone smile.
I eventually reached the door of my house. I sighed. I then quietly knocked on the door. I knocked again except louder this time. I saw my dad running to the door. It was 5:30. I was supposed to get back from school at 3:45 so my mom and dad must have been scared for me. My dad quickly opened the door and he frowned at me. My mom was right behind him and she stared at me. It must have been easy for them to tell that I had been beaten up.
“What… what happened to you,” my mom said.
I looked down and said:
“Errm, well it’s a long story. You wouldn’t understand”.
I pushed past them and ran upstairs.
“Danny! Come back here,” my dad shouted.
I stepped into my room and slammed the door shut. It was probably a bad mistake to have rudely pushed my mom and dad and then to have ignore them but I didn’t care.
I lay down in my bed and I was surprised that my parents hadn’t stormed into my room and started having a go at me. I just needed some space. That was all I could ask for.
Twenty minutes later I heard a thud at my window. I got up and peered outside. Another thud. It appeared that someone threw a tennis ball at my window. I looked down and I saw Jamie getting ready to throw again. When he saw me, he lowered his arm and signaled to open the window. I opened the window and started to think why he would come here. I had a small house so I didn’t exactly have to shout for someone to listen to me.
“Jamie, what are you doing here,” I called.
“You’ve gotta come and see this. You remember that laboratory that’s only like five minutes from here,” he replied.
“Yeah, what about it,”
“Can you remember the time when we went down there to see if those scientists were up to something?”
“Yeah, I can remember all of that. Now cut to the chase!”
“Well they’ve opened it up again and I just have this feeling that they’re up to something,”
“Your crazy, did you know that?”
“We can sneak in this time. Find out what they’re up to”
“And how do you plan on doing that?”
“It’ll be easy. We sneak in. Let someone see us and hopefully they send us to the main room where their master plan is at work. Just like in the movies”.
“Jamie, they don’t send people to their main room. They just kick them out and by the way I’m not going with you so I’ll see you tomorrow”.
I shut my window. Jamie had gone insane. The laboratory had been shut for years. Locked off and no way of getting in. We used to think that something crazy had happened there but that was when we were twelve. We were just kids back then. Even then I didn’t truly believe that there were crazy scientists in there but I didn’t know that Jamie was truly committed to that lie.
The next day was a Saturday. I sat down at the kitchen table and I was getting ready to be shouted at. After two minutes of silence I finally said:
“Look, I’m sorry. What I did yesterday I was rude and stupid. The truth is, I was standing up for Jamie after he was being beaten up and that’s how I got messed up”
“We accept your apology but I’m not going to easily let you get away with this so no IPod or texting for a week,” My dad said.
I could live without my IPod. I liked to text people but I deserved it so I was okay with my punishment.
“Okay,” I said then I continued to eat my breakfast.
Later on, in the afternoon I went to see Jessica, Dylan and Jamie at the chip shop. I was going to talk to Jamie about his crazy plan and if he even bothered to pull it off. I walked in and saw Jess and Dylan sitting opposite each other at the corner table.
“Hey, wait where’s Jamie?” I said
“I dunno. I thought you were coming with him,” Dylan replied.
“He’s probably not feeling well or something,” Jessica suggested.
“Crap,” I said aloud.
“What!” they both said consecutively.
“Yesterday Jamie said he was gonna go to the lab,”
“WHAT! The abandoned one?” Jessica said with shock.
“Yes, the abandoned one. It’s not so abandoned anymore. Scientists are everywhere. Crawling all over the place”.
Jessica put her hand on her head and sighed.
“He’s so stupid. Don’t you guys ever watch the news? They opened it for a reason you know”
Dylan and I exchanged looks and then both said:
“Nope”
“They announced that they’re starting this thing called
Project-X. It’s supposed to cure cancer and scientists are testing it and developing it. If Jamie’s in there, he could die,”
“Do you seriously believe that crap,” Dylan started.
“So your telling us that scientists won’t die in there but Jamie will?”
“You are such a dumb ass,” I laughed.
“What are you talking about,” he replied.
“They’re obviously going to wear the proper science outfit,”
I lightly shoved him and laughed.
“Alright chill out,” he said.
Jess frowned at us.
“This isn’t funny you know,” Jess scowled.
“Alright but I bet we’ll see Jamie tomorrow. Anyway you guys finished,” I said.
“Yep. Lets go,” Dylan replied.
After that, we went into an old abandoned house. We liked to hang out there to talk. We were there for five minutes. Just five minutes until it happened. The day that everything changed.
An explosion. It screwed up the whole of Manhattan. Something had happened in the world and I knew that Jamie was somehow in the middle of it all. Like I said, there were children in that abandoned house after I woke up. How could that be possible? I had passed out for three whole hours and in that space of time a family had been killed and already rotted away. That is impossible.

Kam, the forums are like the twilight zone. You don't really get off-topic views that much anymore.

Also, you only read one. I still have not read part 2 and 3 because I await feedback on Quest Of Madness and Archives of the Ancients.
