Infrastructure - Better placement/destruction?

I appologize in advance if this has been covered elsewhere, I made an effort to look before posting this.

Anyway…

Was doing a little tidying up around my realm.

Not an easy thing. It's so damn random.

Destroyed an ancient Dominator, given it's hit points, it was probably the first one I ever put down, I wanted to move it because a visitor some time ago had put down a dom, and never returned, this wouldn't have bothered me so much had it not been right on top of one of mine, this introduced an element of tedium into harvests.

So I drew down the fire for a new dom, the spell was cast, I heard the thing appear, didn't see anything. It had come into being behind me.

It took a few tries to get it roughly where I wanted it, a lot of my time and energy was wasted.

If anything it was worse when I refreshed my home beacon a few days ago, took it down, put it up, and went blind, took it down again, put it up again, I was blind on one side.

It took me four goes to put it down, where it didn't obscure a dom, or my vision.

Is it possible, at all, to cast a spell, and then tap where you want the thing to go, please?

Another problem I've encountered is that I also wanted to move a ward, which again, was sometimes getting in the way when I wanted to harvest, thing is, I have two wards up, so I had a 50/50 chance of taking down the correct one, and as luck would have it, I took down the wrong one, trying to place the thing again caused great agro, and I used words which I won't repeat here.

For the love of pork, can we replace the existing system with one that isn't as haphazard? Perhaps a little tap-able thing like on gateways, where you get it's vital stats, and an option to destroy it or upgrade it?

Which leaves stuff that visitors leave when they visit, someone comes for a visit, lays down some infrastructure, then promptly leaves and never comes back, and in several cases stops playing altogether. All well and good for infrastructure to exist as a monument to a great mage, but it's just clutter people could do without, and easy fodder for a visiting opposition mage, so much for it being a monument, it's not going to be defended, and in many cases there won't be anyone who would miss it, and it's usually in the way. There was a small forest of doms in my realm left by others, I'm happy to have them there if they harvest, but otherwise I have to get my shotgun and tell them "Get that sh*t off my lawn!" If there had of been a way to remove it I would have done so. I had to ask some reasonably local Architects to come and clean up for me. Thanks again guys, JJ, CWolf, Stewie, you guys were awesome, and thanks again for making the effort, and showing trust.

I understand that these changes may not be easy to implement, but I sincerely hope they will be taken into consideration.

Thanks,
AusNick

I agree with you AusNick. Placing Dominators should be easier like where should you tap it, which one should be which. In my time I had made my base at many different designs and it took awhile because of this. What I did use to find out which stuff is which, I heal it and log in/out to find the difference. I have been doing this many times I notices the oldent Dom that was castes is at the top, and newest Dom at the bottom.
Generally we really do need a feature on how to deepen the creation of our bases, like a good view such as cloud view would be nice.

I've never liked the randomness of either ent placement or warping. I also get trash ents in my area. There's been suggestion of making ents degrade over time, so that they'd need to be refreshed on occasion. That may help.

FWIW, I usually call down a command beacon to clear out my area of trash. Always works for me.

I've never had a problem with the random placements that patience and strategic action couldn't fix. In fact, I enjoy the challenge of manuevering ent placement. That's just me though and it keeps being expressed to me that non-conformist ideas are unwelcome...

AusNick, this was one of my specific points of feedback when GA put out the survey a while back. Entity placement and warping is random and causes a lot of frustration. Especially if you are trying to solo dom-hop to get to a GW. As I am primarily a farmer/spirit hunter, this issue has caused me much heart burn.

However, I have found that dom placement will also, in part, determine how much energy you receive when you harvest. If your doms are spread apart, then you may get less energy than if they were all in close proximity. I understand if GA wants mages to work on getting the optimal placement for doms to maximize energy gains.

Also, consider raids/battles. You're in the heat of battle, and you want to drop a ward or dom a GW. Do you really want to mess around with placement when you have mages casting at you from all sides?

I have both green and OJ accounts, and I have had mages drop in and paint my beacon for me by placing a dom right next to it (some were done that way on purpose, some not). If I draw a command beacon, I'll nuke the farm, but will not want to lose my beacon. If JoeSchmoe dropped a dom next to my beacon, it will get destroyed for sure. I like Anvar's idea to have doms degrade over time, requiring a refresh or periodic healing. That way, you're ensured that abandoned structures will turn to dust in a set amount of time.

Thanks for posting this.
