You even cleared up a misunderstanding I had on first read:

Spell cost seems related to your mana level, both max and current. ... Increasing your mana pool via Intelligence raises the cost of spells a small amount.

I'm glad that you removed these lines as I found them misleading. They made it sound that spell costs were a ratio proportional to your INT. (Which would make INT an irrelevant attribute)

As these lines came after the passage,
"The spell cost stays roughly:
1 Beacon = 2 Wards = 3 Arias of Light = 4 War Chants".

I interpreted it to mean: INT raises MP and INT raises spell cost, therefore raising INT is pointless, as you will always be limited to 4 WC's at max MP.

It is much clearer now without them. Thank you, again!
